Tool storage: choose access before capacity
The right box makes the next job easier. The biggest stack may not.
Start with the tools you use together
Lay out one normal project kit and measure it. Separate items used every session from items used occasionally. This makes it easier to decide whether you need a rolling base, a small organizer or a simple bag. Buying storage for an imagined collection can create more bulk than the equipment itself.
Test the route on paper
Measure the narrowest doorway, the storage shelf and the vehicle opening. Add the handles and anything attached outside the box. Then consider stairs, uneven surfaces and whether one person must lift the loaded kit. Wheels are helpful only when the route allows rolling. An impressive stated capacity should never be mistaken for a comfortable lifting weight.
Think about the bottom of the stack
If your most-used tool sits in a box below several other boxes, every retrieval becomes a small unpacking job. Sketch where drills, consumables and measuring tools would live. Match the access method to the frequency of use. Modular systems are convenient when modules are genuinely useful; empty modules are just extra material to transport.
A sensible upgrade path
Begin with the part that solves a recurring access or transport problem. Add compatible pieces after using that first setup. The rolling box below is a research candidate, with dimensions and package details to confirm in its source and current listing. The portable workstand is a separate workspace option. Neither is a requirement for doing good work in a small shop.
